Goodbye, Oregon, we barely knew ye: Voters decriminalize hard drugs to become first state to shift resources to rehab instead

Thanks to what may be the dumbest group of Democrat voters in the country, Oregon is now the first state in the country to decriminalize small amounts of the most addictive, deadly drugs on American streets.

As the nation continues to wait to see who will win the presidential election (as of this writing, anyway), Oregon is preparing to pour tens of millions in taxes derived from a drug — marijuana — into drug treatment of addicts if they are caught with certain amounts of heroin, meth, cocaine or oxycodone, according to Oregon Live.

The outlet reports:

Voters overwhelmingly supported Measure 110, a coup for the New York-based Drug Policy Alliance, the same criminal justice reform group that backed Oregon’s successful marijuana legalization effort in 2014.

Near-final returns as of 10:20 a.m. Wednesday showed the measure winning overwhelmingly, 59% to 41%. Its margin of victory exceeded 350,000 votes.

Peter Zuckerman, campaign manager for Measure 110, called the win “a big step forward.”

“Today is a huge day of celebration but the work is not over and we have a lot more work to do to win a better system for everybody,” Zuckerman continued.

Naturally, supporters of this lunacy blamed ‘racism’ for the ‘disproportionate incarceration’ of blacks and the reason why decriminalization instead of jail time is necessary, never once stopping to think that holding such a belief is, in and of itself, stereotyping and racism. This kind of thinking assumes blacks are being punished for making the choice to use drugs in the first place as if they have no other option. It’s ridiculous.

And who is behind this lunacy? Well, let us guess: If you answered George Soros, you’d be right.

“The Drug Policy Alliance poured more than $4 million into the decriminalization campaign, far outspending the $95,000 raised by opponents. The organization receives support from billionaire philanthropist and investor George Soros, who is on the alliance board,” Oregon Live reported.

But it’s not just Soros.

“Other major funders of the effort included Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who along with his wife, Priscilla Chan, gave $500,000, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon, which gave $150,000, and national ACLU, which gave another $150,000, per state campaign finance reports,” the outlet added.

What people don’t seem to get is that Soros, Zuckerberg and the rest of these Marxist billionaire social manipulators are sowing chaos in our cities and streets by installing ‘prosecutors’ who don’t prosecute criminal activity while decriminalizing activities that tear away at our social fabric. It’s insane, but thanks to our pathetically inadequate public school system — that is dominated by the same Marxist leftists — our young people are no longer taught to critically think.

Measure 110 did, at least, have its opponents, including former Gov. John Kitzhaber. He argued that the new regulation will undermine courts’ traditional role in guiding abusers into drug rehab centers while doing nothing to guarantee that abusers would even have a treatment bed. (Related: Trump WINS election; Democrats now working overtime to STEAL it by fabricating hundreds of thousands of votes in Michigan and Wisconsin.)

“We are disappointed that Oregon voters have been misled into decriminalizing heroin, meth, cocaine, oxycodone,” Jim O’Rourke, a leading opponent of the measure, told the outlet. “Both sides need to come together with the governor and Legislature and give the voters what they really intended — saving lives and more treatment beds.”

That said, the support for this stupidity was bipartisan; Oregon Live said parts of the state that are traditionally ‘liberal’ voted for the measure as well as “Republican strongholds” that voted for President Trump.

What the measure does: “It reduces misdemeanor drug possession to a noncriminal violation on par with a traffic offense. People with small amounts of drugs including heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, LSD, psilocybin, methadone and oxycodone will get a ticket and face a $100 fine or have the option of being screened for a substance abuse disorder,” says Oregon Live.

In addition, it reduces penalties for current felony drug possession; Measure 110 makes those misdemeanors now. And finally, the measure funnels tens of millions in marijuana tax dollars to “Addiction Recovery Centers,” which — prediction here — will merely turn into expensive revolving doors.
